Graphs notes​

1. Total primary energy supply (in​ Mtoe)
  • ​These graphs exclude electricity trade for presentational purposes; the total value presented on the pie chart includes electricity trade.
  • In this graph, peat and oil shale are aggregated with coal when relevant.
  •  “Others” includes geothermal, solar, tide, wave, ocean, wind and fuels not included in any other categories, e.g. waste heat from the glass industry.

2. Total final consumption (in Mtoe)
  • This graph includes non-energy use.
  • “Others” includes commercial and public services, agriculture/forestry, fishing and non-specified sectors.

3. Electricity generation (in TWh).
  • In this graph, peat and oil shale are aggregated with coal, when relevant.
  •  “Others” includes geothermal, solar, tide, wave, ocean, wind and other forms of electricity generation not included elsewhere, e.g. fuel cells.

4. Energy production (in Mtoe)
  • In this graph, peat and oil shale are aggregated with coal when relevant.
  •  ​“Others” includes geothermal, solar, tide, wave, ocean, wind and fuels not included in any other categories, e.g. waste heat from the glass industry.

Data collection

The data are collected by IEA from the national statistical offices through the joint Eurostat/IEA/UNECE annual questionnaires. More data can be found on national statistical offices and IEA statistics website.
